This song is about being a watcher on the Beeliar Wetlands campaign. Since mid December the Beeliar watchers, among others have maintained a vigil over the Roe 8 construction site. Our work has often occurred solo, early in the morning and away from the large group actions - though our information has helped to enable these actions. We watch the build up of security and police, the movement of workers and machinery and most of all, we watch the trappers.

In this crazy busy world, many of us joined watchers because our jobs prevent us from staying during the day. Some of us have put our bodies on the line locking on to delay the destruction. Others have watched over these protectors in the early hours before more support arrives. Most of us chat with those who work the site to find out what will happen next.

In the early days, we watched the trappers to predict when and where clearing is likely to commence. According to the Flora and Fauna Management plan, no clearing can occur until there has been 48 hours without catching target species, including bandicoots. It soon became clear that this requirement was not being observed, with bandicoots removed as close as 90 minutes to clearing commencing. So we began documenting breeches of the Flora and Fauna Management plan. These breeches are now subject to a Senate enquiry.

Trapper Watcher sings my experience watching on the Roe 8 construction site.
