Beeliar Love Song © Ginny Webb 2017 You’re too precious to lose I don’t wanna have to choose Between red-tailed black cockatoos And a six lane road that splits communities in two! There’s no excuse So many share my view It’s giving us all The Blues so Let’s tell the government it isn’t cool! CHORUS (Oh) Beeliar How precious you are Here on Nyoongar Boodja boodja boodja boodja (Yeah) Beeliar How special you are Here on Nyoongar Boodja Boodja Ancient stones and bones Leave them alone They belong to the First Nation They need preservation You’re the last refuge Of the sweet bandicoot Rainbow bee-eater too In the wetlands biodiversity rules! CHORUS (Oh) Beeliar etc BRIDGE Say No to Roe Let’s take it slow We just don’t want it So let’s stop it! Those pushing this thing through Haven’t got a clue From anyone’s point of view “They’re building a road to nowhere…” I’d much rather We fund the outer harbour Down in Kwinana Instead of this disaster! CHORUS + Here on Nyoongar Boodja “They’re building a road to nowhere…”

Swiftly the ice is conceding defeat The river of life is commencing retreat Melting until just a trickle remains It'll take millions of years to get flowing again Its a shame Oil, love and oxygen Are the things we burn On which we depend Is it my concern? Oil, love and oxygen Massive extinction, event number six Another species just drops off the list When it can't adapt to the rate of this change The children of men are fanning the flames We are to blame Oil, love and oxygen Are the things we burn On which we depend Is it my concern? The famous north west passage is open at the same time as the passage in the north east Its the first time this event has happened in a hundred and twenty five thousand years at least Its gonna cut four thousand miles off the journey from Germany to Japan But we're still a ship of fools looking for oil, love and oxygen My silence will not protect me My silence will not protect me My silence will not protect me Oil, love and oxygen Are the things we burn On which we depend Is it my concern If these things should end?

A long time ago, was a man Oh so old, so wise A teller of stories Stories of creation Stories of life  He spoke of mountains moving Of shape shifting earthquakes He spoke of creatures and of spirits And ancient sacred lakes  He could see things nobody else could see  He walked with animals As tall as trees He spoke of constellations And inland seas  He was a wise man  He carried fire in his hand Across this vast land He knew when to light it up And when to put it out He was a wise man Such a wise man.

about

A compilation of original songs written by various local artists supporting the campaign to save the Beeliar Wetlands in the south of Perth, Western Australia.

All proceeds go to www.rethinkthelink.com.au, a community-run campaign that believes there is a better solution to the proposed Perth Freight Link and the raft of economic, environmental and social impacts it will have on the WA community.

The entire album is available for $15, but generous donations above this are welcome! Individual songs can be purchased for $1 or more, and the individual song pages have details about each artist.

You will notice that this is Volume 1, because even more songs have been written about this historic community campaign (see Volume 2, alsofor sale on this Musicians for Beeliar Bandcamp page as of March 11, 2017).
